Come Home

Sad boys buried deep in the basement where the magic happens as the rest of the house goes through various seasons of holiday, and decay we lay here in wait that someone will come down and hold us as we break from sobbing to silently pray.

Hope floods the floods only to be restored to the stone that traps us under layers of the many, many nights before. But all we wish is to be let out, and meet the guests we have come to known through indirection we slip passing glances as we lay here; silent, hurting, and bored.

Cut us loose we call a truce we are valid nonetheless, but our presence is met with the crystalline gaze as other might find out exactly how small we are, or try to take us for a ride before asking us to move over down here even more.

One time I had a dad who was a ghost of circumstance his presence was something that was rare enough but we never questioned then. But now down here I count the broken bones that were never set, and never healed just crooked against the circumstance we never understood, and probably won't anytime soon.

Another time we knew a girl and we named her lover she was the apple that immediately catches eyes, or the light limed in all the various shades of sublime. We patched together the holes that were left next to one another as the heart slowly is healing hopefully next June.

There was a boy that we liked too and wanted to be transparent as our feelings were in tune but our parents were not as buoyant as our growing hearts. We buried him down here in subtle fear and have forgotten to mark the grave, and hopefully dead men don't carry tunes.

I lived down here beneath the floor boards in the catacombs of the mind where I hope real soon I can move on ethereally down the line. Cutting the cords that bind me here where the rotten, and the grime the sneers down here carve hard lines in our faces you think all we had was time. I pray for grace, that we still have a place at that table in the sky, and our names are there in forgiven stare in books we hope to meet our eyes.
